Waypoint spreads the message of hopeMental Health Week Walk during Mental Health Week

May 7-13, 2018 marks the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA) 67th Annual Mental Health Week. It’s an opportunity to #GETLOUD, speak up and stop the discrimination and stigma that often goes hand in hand with mental illness.

This year, Waypoint is using its voice during Mental Health Week to spread the message of hope, build a community of support and demonstrate that one does not have to face mental illness and addiction alone. We are stronger together!

This year’s events include an information session for the new CHIGAMIK Waypoint Health Hub. The community is invited to the Cedar Room at CHIGAMIK Community Health Centre on May 7 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to view recent designs, discuss the plans and see some of the construction materials.

Mental Health Week will also highlight our Have Hope champions as we continue the #HaveHope campaign in collaboration with the County of Simcoe. The #HaveHope campaign offers personal stories of those who have experienced mental illness and addiction, mental health resources, opportunities to share your stories, and mental health first aid training for adults, youth and adults who work with youth. Follow us on social media and visit www.havehope.ca to be inspired and for your chance to become a #HaveHope champion.

“Using our voice to share the message of hope and support is an important part of Waypoint’s role in the community,” says Carol Lambie, Waypoint president and CEO. “While one in five Canadians live with mental health problems, mental illnesses or addiction, the reality is five in five of us have mental health, just like we all have physical health. We can all benefit from celebrating, promoting and acknowledging the role that good mental health plays in living a full and meaningful life.”

This community of support will be visible across Waypoint’s Penetanguishene campus on May 10 when staff and clients will wear green at the #GETLOUD Walk for your Wellbeing. Others will be showing their support and learning how to provide help to people developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis at the sold-out Mental Health First Aid course on May 8 & 9.This show of support and solidarity reminds us we’re all in this together.
