For the Media

As a publicly funded mental health and addictions hospital, it is critical for Waypoint to work with the media to protect the privacy rights of our patients and ensure there is no unduly disruption to hospital programs. Waypoint will strive to be as open and accessible to the media as possible.

To ensure we are meeting privacy requirements, strict processes are in place for all news gatherings on Waypoint property. This includes the involvement of communications and clinical staff for interviewing patients and employees, and permission for taking photographs, videography, and use of drones.

No media cameras are allowed on site without prior permission from Waypoint Communications staff. While at Waypoint, a staff person or designate must escort members of the media at all times.

No patients can be photographed or filmed without written consent from the patient on Waypoint’s consent form. This will be facilitated by Waypoint and will ensure the patient is fully aware of the consent information, use of the information, and process.

You may be asked to stop taking a photo, video or audio recording and delete any recordings taken if you do not have prior approval or if your actions interfere with care or services being provided.

Before interviewing any Waypoint staff or visiting the site, it is important that media contact the Waypoint Communications and Fund Development office at 705 549 3181 ext. 2073 or by email [email protected].

Please note that we will do our best to respond in a timely manner but permission is required before arriving at Waypoint. Please follow up with us if you have specific deadlines you are trying to meet.

Waypoint is available to provide expert information on all aspects of mental illness, including addictions, to the public through the media.

We have a variety of experts available to media for comment on treatment, research and education issues concerning mental health.
