Atrium Building Construction
Construction of a new building for Waypoint's forensic mental health programs was 30 years in the making and it finally came to fruition when the Atrium Building opened in March 2014.

The new building is built on the hospital’s existing site and replaced the 160-bed Oak Ridge building and the 20-bed Brébeuf building, offering a larger, more modern space for treatment and care for people with a mental illness who are involved with the justice system. The new building consolidates Waypoint into a more efficient, integrated campus.

Planning for what would be the largest public infrastructure project in Penetanguishene’s history began in January 2009. After many more months of work, the hospital and Infrastructure Ontario announced Integrated Team Solutions (ITS) as the preferred proponent selected to design, build, finance and maintain the new building. The ITS consortium represents a joint venture between EllisDon Corporation and Fengate Capital Management Ltd., with EllisDon also providing construction services. The facility was designed by Cannon Design and Honeywell Limited will provide facilities management. National Bank Financial Inc. acted as the financial advisor to ITS.
