Student Academic Placement

Kiana Chabikuli is currently a third-year Bachelor of Health Sciences student at Queen’s University. He joined Waypoint in June 2025 as a Research Student through the Summer Student Academic Placement program. Throughout his studies at Queen’s, he has built a strong foundation in physiology, microbiology, social determinants of health (SDOH), and research methodologies.

At Waypoint, he is working under the supervision of Dr. Canning on the Patient-Oriented Forensic Research project and contributing to the National Action Plan for the Mental Health Commission of Canada. His passion for mental health and advocacy continues to guide his academic and professional journey. He is particularly committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in healthcare research and practice.

Beyond the lab, he serves as President of the Black student body at Queen’s, where he leads initiatives to uplift Black-identifying students and foster inclusive spaces. He also works as a Student Assistant with the Queen’s Human Rights and Equity Office, where he supports advocacy efforts for a broad range of underrepresented student communities.

In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar and piano, discovering new music, and diving into books and television series that spark curiosity and creativity.
