While visits do not need to be pre-arranged, it is recommended to contact the program social worker to let them know of the visit.

The social worker (or clinical manager) will let you know:

• When to visit  
• What you can bring  
• Where to go  

Without prior visit arrangements, the visit may be delayed and/or may not be able to occur.

Visiting hours may vary on different programs.

Visitors should contact the program they are planning to visit to confirm specific visiting hours (where applicable), as there are activities and programs occurring throughout the day that patients may choose to attend.

Special arrangements to have more visitors may be made in advance with appropriate staff.

During your visit:

• No more than four (4) visitors are allowed on the program at one time.
• Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Please do not visit if you are feeling unwell.

Visiting may be limited, changed or suspended in some situations based on a patient’s care needs or the health and safety of patients, families and staff. This may include situations such as seclusion, palliative care or an outbreak. Please contact the program before visiting for the most up-to-date information and to learn about other ways to stay connected.

The best thing to do is contact the care team directly to find out what is allowed and what to expect before your visit.

• Go through security if entering a program area (metal detector or wand)  
• Show ID (in some units)  
• Wear a visitor badge 
• Store items including phones or other items in a locker. 

• Cigarettes or vapes  
• Alcohol  
• Drugs or cannabis  

If you are unsure what to bring, check with the social worker or clinical manager. Rules for prohibited items may differ for each program/unit.

Photos can be taken of/with your loved one while visiting, just speak to the care team first. 

No other photo, video, or audio recordings are permitted on hospital grounds without prior authorization. 

Homemade and/or cultural foods are permitted. Food cannot contain bones.

All food for patient consumption must be consumed during the visit. Waypoint is not able to accommodate the storage and/or handling of leftovers and these must be taken home by the visitor.

Some food may not be allowed. Check with the program social worker if you are unsure what you can bring.

The Bay Café Micro Market is a self-checkout, unattended retail market that offers fresh and frozen food, cold beverages, snacks, and treats. It operates 24/7 as a convenient, full-service meal, snack, or beverage option.

You can bring money, gifts or packages for your loved one, but some items may not be allowed.

Staff will process any funds you bring and give you a receipt.

Please check with the program before bringing or sending anything to make sure it is allowed.

Waypoint’s Gift Shop is located in the lobby and open to the public. It is volunteer-run and the hours vary. All proceeds go to patient programming and activities

This includes inside the building, in the parking lot or inside cars in the parking lot, walking pathways, the entire Waypoint campus and any community building where Waypoint provides service.

Visitors are required to move off the grounds, parking lots, and roads to smoke or vape.

Waypoint is dedicated to promoting the safety and wellness of its patients, employees, and visitors by raising awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco use and eliminating second-hand smoke exposure and triggers.

Waypoint’s location on the beautiful shores of Georgian Bay makes it an ideal place to take pictures; however, protecting patient privacy is one of our highest priorities and we ask that you also respect the privacy of those around you. Prior permission must be obtained from Waypoint’s Communications staff before any photography, audio or video, including drones, can take place on any Waypoint property or building. Consent, verbal and written, must also be obtained from the people who will be included in all photos, video or audio.

You may be asked to stop taking a photo, video or audio recording and delete any recordings taken if you do not have prior approval or if your actions interfere with care or services being provided.

For the safety and comfort of those with allergies and scent sensitivities, Waypoint is a scent-reduced environment. Patients, staff, visitors and volunteers should avoid wearing scented products or bringing scented flowers to Waypoint.
