Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is proud to congratulate Dr. Andrea Waddell on her appointment as Vice Chair, Clinical and Quality in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Waddell serves as Medical Director of Quality and Informatics at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, one of Canada’s leading specialty mental health hospitals. In this role, she has led initiatives that advance quality improvement, evidence-based mental health care, patient safety and the implementation of clinical best practices across the organization.
A psychiatrist and Associate Professor in the University of Toronto’s Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Waddell is widely recognized for her leadership in healthcare quality, mental health system improvement and clinical innovation. She also serves as Regional Clinical Lead for Mental Health and Addictions with Ontario Health – Central Region, where she supports the adoption of evidence-based care pathways and quality standards across diverse healthcare settings.
Dr. Waddell’s research focuses on patient safety, learning health systems and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve healthcare quality and outcomes. As an AMS-Fitzgerald Fellow in AI and Human-Centred Leadership, she is helping shape the future of data-informed mental health care in Ontario and beyond.
In her new role as Vice Chair, Clinical and Quality, Dr. Waddell will help advance academic excellence, clinical scholarship and the dissemination of best practices in psychiatry, with a focus on strengthening quality improvement and learning health systems.
This appointment reflects Dr. Waddell’s significant contributions to mental health care, healthcare quality and academic psychiatry. Waypoint is proud to celebrate this achievement and the continued impact of her leadership across Ontario’s healthcare system.
