Supporting a loved one through addiction and recovery can bring questions, uncertainty and difficult conversations.
This seven-session online series offers family members and caregivers practical information and tools to better understand addiction, navigate recovery, set healthy boundaries, communicate effectively and support their own well-being along the way.

Weekly Themes
- Session 1 – October 5: Understanding Addiction and Recovery — Addiction and the brain, the cycle of addiction and recovery, stages of change, and available supports.
- Session 2 – October 19: When Recovery Feels Hard Again — Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS), common symptoms, triggers, coping strategies, and ongoing support.
- Session 3 – November 2: Family Dynamics and Healing — Family roles, relationship patterns, boundaries, communication, and shared responsibility in healing.
- Session 4 – November 16: Communication Skills That Help — De-escalation, validation, timing, tone, and safer conversations about substance use.
- Session 5 – November 30: Supporting Without Burning Out — The difference between supporting and enabling, boundary setting, caregiver burnout, and letting go of guilt.
- Session 6 – December 14: Hope, Resilience, and Moving Forward — Recovery over time, emotional safety, meaningful progress, resilience, and maintaining hope.
- Session 7 – December 28: Stages of Change — This session will introduce the Stages of Change Model and explore each stage of the change process. We will discuss practical ways families can support and encourage their loved ones at each stage.
