Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is pleased to announce the appointments of two senior clinical leaders who will help advance the organization’s 10-year strategic vision while supporting high quality mental health care across the region.

Dr. Rebecca (Becky) Van Iersel has been appointed Chief of Staff, effective August 3, 2026. Michael (Mike) Dunn has been appointed Vice-President, Integrated Health Delivery System & Chief Clinical Supports Officer, effective September 8, 2026.

These appointments strengthen Waypoint’s leadership team as the hospital continues to enhance patient care, strengthen partnerships and respond to the evolving needs of Ontario’s mental health system.

Dr. Rebecca (Becky) Van Iersel

Over the past four years at Waypoint, Dr. Van Iersel has provided leadership as Medical Director of Integrated Care & Concurrent Disorders and as co-chair of the Leadership Team. She is an experienced physician leader with a strong focus on improving how people experience Ontario’s health care system.

Before joining Waypoint, Dr. Van Iersel held senior leadership roles with the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network, Health Quality Ontario and Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

She graduated from Queen’s University School of Medicine and completed a rural medicine residency at the University of Toronto. Throughout her career, she has practiced family medicine, including emergency medicine, mental health hospitalist care and obstetrics.

In 2018, she received the Ontario College of Family Physicians Award of Excellence in recognition of her contributions to patient care. Her clinical interests include addictions, psychological trauma and integrated health.

As Chief of Staff, Dr. Van Iersel will continue to serve as Medical Director of Integrated Care & Concurrent Disorders while maintaining her clinical practice at Waypoint.

Dr. Kevin Young will continue in his role as Vice-President, Medical Affairs and has assumed additional executive leadership responsibilities for strategic priority initiatives.

Mike Dunn

Michael (Mike) Dunn, BA, MSc, TITC-CT, CHE, brings more than 20 years of experience in the health sector, with a focus on mental health and addictions. Throughout his career, he has helped develop innovative partnerships and programs that improve access to care across Simcoe County.

He has played a key role in the development of initiatives including HART Hub of Simcoe, Waypoint at Home and StreetReach.

Most recently, Mike served as Director, Health System Integration and Ambulatory Services at Waypoint, where he provided strategic oversight for Ontario Structured Psychotherapy and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS).

Mike is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. His work focuses on health care quality improvement and designing care delivery systems in partnership with people with lived and living experience.

He earned a Master of Science in Health Policy, Management and Evaluation from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Carleton University.

These leadership appointments reinforce Waypoint’s commitment to delivering high quality mental health care, strengthening partnerships across the health system and advancing the hospital’s long-term strategic priorities.
