North Simcoe Muskoka Specialized Geriatric Services (NSM SGS), led by Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, has received the 2026 Seniors’ Mental Health Outstanding Care and Integrative Practice Award.
Presented by the Canadian Collition for Seniors’ Mental Health (CCSMH), the award recognizes NSM SGS’s work to improve mental health care for older adults by connecting health care providers, community organizations, older adults and caregivers.
Established in 2016, NSM SGS has grown into a regional network, providing leadership and advocacy for those supporting older adults living with cognitive impairment, responsive behaviour and mental health concerns. Through specialized clinical services, and cross-sector partnerships, education and mentorship, the program helps health care professionals access expertise and deliver evidence-informed care.
“Over the past decade, NSM SGS has shown what’s possible when we work together across the health care system,” said Sandra Easson-Bruno, Director of Specialized Geriatric Services.
“This award recognizes the dedication of our team and partners to finding better ways to support older adults and their caregivers.”
The program’s impact extends beyond clinical services. As one example, NSM SGS has partnered with many organizations to advance community-based caregiver respite programming. This project helps reduce stress by expanding opportunities for both the older adult and their caregiver to build connections, explore new interests, and provide respite from usual daily routines.
“Supporting older adults means looking at the whole picture, including their relationships, independence and quality of life,” said Michael Dunn, Vice President of Integrated Health Delivery System & CCSO Administration. “We’re proud to lead a program that brings people together, listens to caregivers and helps build a more connected system of support across our region.”
The award celebrates NSM SGS’s collaborative approach, which brings together clinical expertise, leadership, research, education, innovation and lived experience to strengthen seniors’ mental health care across North Simcoe Muskoka.
Congratulations to NSM SGS and their partners on improving mental health and well-being for older adults and their caregivers.
