The Spiritual Care Team is pleased to extend a warm welcome to Hilton King, who has joined Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in the role of Traditional Healer.
Hilton brings a strong foundation in the Midewiwin tradition, coupled with a deep academic and professional background in social work. His ability to bridge Euro-western and Indigenous knowledge systems will allow him to support individuals in meaningful and culturally grounded ways — offering traditional teachings, ceremonies and guidance that promote holistic well-being and community connection.
Originally from the Wasauksing community near Parry Sound, Hilton has a wealth of experience supporting Indigenous agencies, the Children’s Aid Society, and correctional services. His academic achievements include a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University, a Bachelor of Social Work from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson), and a Provisional Social Services Diploma from St. Lawrence College.
Hilton is being closely supported by Austin Mixemong, who is introducing him to our programs and providing mentorship as he transitions into this important role. We deeply thank Austin for his continued guidance and the profound impact he has made at Waypoint.
Reflecting on his new role, Hilton shared he is very honoured to be stepping into this role.
I have a responsibility to continue the good work that Austin has done here over the years. I will do my very best to offer the same kindness and understanding that he has shared. And I will continue to reach out to all my peers, as I have been made aware we are all in this together in the work we do.
