Research Interests
Dr. Katherine McKay (she/her) is a psychiatrist, clinician-educator, and health system leader whose work focuses on serious mental illness, person-centred care, transitions in care, quality improvement, and education. Her clinical practice includes community outreach for people living with schizophrenia, complex mood disorders, and dual diagnoses. She is the Medical Director of Integrated Ambulatory and Child & Youth Services, including Waypoint’s neuromodulation program, and is an Adjunct Clinical Investigator with the Waypoint Research Institute.
Dr. McKay holds academic appointments with McMaster University, NOSM University, and the University of Toronto. She has contributed to postgraduate psychiatry education through roles in accreditation, curriculum development, teaching, and continuing quality improvement. Her scholarly interests include psychiatric rehabilitation, person-centred mental health care, medical education, rural and community-based psychiatry, and supporting transitions from hospital to home.
She completed an Executive Masters of Business Administration with a Health and Life Sciences focus at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management in June 2026. This training supports her interest in pragmatic, sustainable approaches to mental health system improvement, with attention to access, continuity, patient experience, and outcomes for people living with complex mental illness.
