Salim Z. Somani

Salim Z. Somani, FCPA, FCA, CPA (Illinois), was appointed to the Waypoint Board of Directors in June 2026. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant with extensive experience in governance, financial oversight, strategy and community service. He owns and operates a CPA firm providing financial reporting, tax and advisory services.
Salim previously served on the Board of the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, including as Board Chair and, earlier, as Chair of its Audit and Finance Committee. He has also held adjudicative leadership roles with CPA Ontario, including Chair of Appeals and Deputy Chair of Admissions and Registration.
His international development experience includes more than a decade of work with the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance, an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). In this capacity, he supported the establishment and development of microfinance programs across East Africa, North Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East. His engagement included leadership training and institutional capacity building, as well as external audit and reporting assignments. He also delivered leadership training based on the AKDN Ethical Framework at global meetings and to local teams in several countries.
In 2024, Salim was named a Fellow of CPA Ontario, the profession’s highest honour, in recognition of his exceptional service, leadership, competency and stewardship within the profession and the broader community.
