Patient-oriented research can be a powerful way to support trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care in forensic mental health settings. These guidelines examine five key dimensions of forensic patient-oriented research (POR) along with core principles that are key to success. They are designed to provide a practical foundation for forensic POR based on evidence and acknowledged best practices.
Applying the guidelines will create the conditions for research projects that are equitable, safe, respectful and help build long-lasting relationships of trust in forensic settings.
